Ways to Combat the Spirit of Fear

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

Fear is a spirit. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7 So are power, love and a sound mind.

The text actually is understood to read like this:

God has not given us the Spirit of Fear, but He gave us the Spirit of Power, the Spirit of Love and the Spirit of a sound mind.

Since we don't want anything that God didn't gives us, we understand that fear is not of God and should be renounced, cast out and bound by us. We also understand that the Spirit of Power, Spirit of Love and the Spirit of a Sound mind are spiritual helpers and weapons to be used against the Spirit of Fear.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. I John 4:18.

Three weapons to be used to combat fear. Now here is the fourth.

For you did not receive the Spirit of Bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of Adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

This scripture is loaded with truths. Consider these:

a. The Spirit of Bondage fuels the Spirit of Fear.

b. The Spirit of Bondage and the Spirit of Adoption are opposed to one another.

c. The Spirit of Adoption leads one to cry out and acknowledge the Father.

d. We previously had the Spirit of Bondage but once we accepted Jesus as our Saviour, we received the Spirit of Adoption.

e. When praying for unsaved loved ones and friends, we can bind the Spirit of Bondage and loose the Spirit of Adoption in their lives.

In summary, fight the Spirit of Fear with the 1. Spirit of Love, 2. Spirit of Power, 3. Spirit of a Sound Mind, 4. Spirit of Adoption.
